Walter Bergren Obituary

BELGRADE, ME Walter "Wally" F. Bergren, 72, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, November 2, 2008 while golfing in Waterville. Wally was born March 20, 1936 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of the late Ragnar and Leah Hamm Bergren. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1953. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving until July of 1959. While in the Navy, he had the opportunity to travel extensively. For 38 years he was employed by Verizon, formerly New England Telephone. In 1983 he earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Massachusetts. He was a long time resident of Waldoboro and in more recent years, resided in Belgrade. He was the beloved husband of the late, Mary Jane Rosenquist Bergren and the beloved father of Michael Bergren of Boston. He was an avid golfer and a veteran of many tournaments. He was a member of the Rockland and Waterville golf clubs. He was a long-time ice hockey player, playing for nearly 40 years until the age of 55. He loved music, particularly jazz. Wally will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, kindness and his warm heart. A memorial visit will be held from 2 - 4 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Wally's wife, Mary Jane Bergren, to the American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086 Arrangements are entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home and Cremation service, 949 Main St. Waldoboro, ME.
