Mary Murdock Obituary

QUINCY Mary (Parker) Murdock, of Quincy, age 96, died November 4, 2008. Wife of the late Ira Francis Murdock. Loving mother of Thomas P. Lewis of White Plains, NY and the late John Parker Murdock. Grandmother of Dr. Abbie Stovman of Hope, British Columbia, Peter Lewis of Manhattan, NY and Dr. Emily Fucheck of Poughkeepsie, NY. Great-grandmother of Maxwell and Sophie Fucheck and Brandon Stovman. Mary was a longtime Squantum resident who was active in Quincy civic affairs. Born July 18, 1912 in Mt. Vernon NY, she graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and worked in business in New York City before moving to Boston in the early 1940s. In the late 1950's to the 1970's, she served as a co-chair of the Quincy committee for Robert Taft's presidential campaign; as president of the Quincy and Squantum women's clubs; and as residential co-chair of the Red Feather Community Chest (now known as the United Way). She later served on the board of the International Artists Series, a classical concert series at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, founded by her son John Parker Murdock. Services are private. A memorial luncheon is planned in January. Correspondence may be sent to Thomas P. Lewis, 63 Prospect St., White Plains, NY 10606.
