George Cody Obituary

HAVERHILL Mr. George M. Cody, 95, of Haverhill and formerly of Braintree, died Friday morning at Hannah Duston Healthcare, Haverhill. He was born in Braintree, September 29, 1913, son of the late Alexander J. and Lila B. (Maguire) Cody. Educated in the Braintree school system, Mr. Cody graduated from Braintree High School, class of 1930. He attended Franklin Union College, Boston, and Penn State as well as Michigan State. Prior to moving to Haverhill in 1960 he was employed as a Draftsman in the Fore River Shipyard, Quincy. A registered Professional Engineer, Mr. Cody was employed as a Senior Engineer at the former Western Electric from where he retired in 1978. While in Haverhill Mr. Cody was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Catherine Gertrude (Lepella) Cody who died in 1949 as well as the late Wilma I. (Shores) Cody who died in 2000, father of the late George E. Cody who died in 1996 and Joanne Michael who died in 1948, grandfather of the late Kevin Clohisy who died in 1995, and brother of the late C. Gerald Cody who died in 2003. His survivors include a son, John T. and his wife Beverly A. Cody of Haverhill, three daughters, Sandra L. and her husband James R. Smith of Holbrook, Patricia A. and her husband William Mabey of Haverhill, Constance M. and her husband William Gagnon of Haverhill, a brother, William Cody of Braintree, a sister, Eleanor Daiute of Braintree, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Monday at 10:00 from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 in St. John The Baptist Church, Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Weymouth.Calling hours at the Funeral Home will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
