Lillian Gold Obituary

QUINCY Lillian Gold, 89, of Quincy, MA, died Friday (11/7/08) in Steere House, Providence, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Isador Gold and daughter of the late Bernard and Lena (Popkin) Taub. Born in a Boston taxicab in 1919, she was a resident of Quincy since 1957. A retired businesswoman, Lillian was a life member of Bnai Brith Women and was active in the Quincy Chapter serving as co-president. She was a member of Congregation Adas Shalom, life member of its Sisterhood and a member of the Quincy Jewish Community Center. Lillian was a graduate of Teachers College of the City of Boston earning a BS in Education in 1940 and a Masters in Education in 1941. She taught in the Boston School System for several years. Lillian was associated with the Massachusetts Department of Education in the Vocational Department from 1942 to 1952. She then headed the office force at the State Teachers College at Boston (now Boston State College) from 1952 to 1957. Lillian and her husband owned and operated the Town Package Store in Hanover, MA, which she took over after his death in 1977. She leaves her children Roselyn Gold Herman of Hull, MA and Lisa and Michael Penn and granddaughters Allison and Julie of Warwick, RI, grandson and granddaughter Michael and Carrie Wayburn and great-granddaughters Brianna, Emily and Morgan, all of Middleboro, MA. She was the sister of the late Helen Rebecca Taub and the grandmother of the late Brian Spencer Wayburn. The funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston, RI. Interment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, 815 Willard St., Quincy, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Steere House, 100 Borden St., Providence, RI 02903.
