Irene Maher Obituary

Irene Maher MILTON Irene (Place) Maher passed away on November 7, 2008. Born November 25, 1914 to John & Mary Louise Place of Milford, NH, Irene graduated from Milford H.S. in 1932 and subsequently from Nashua Business College, worked in Nashua until she married and moved to Boston, living in the Savin Hill section of Dorchester until she moved to Milton in later years. She worked at Bank Boston as an Executive Secretary, retiring after 27 years in 1979. She was a positive person who enjoyed good health for most of her life, and was able to indulge her passion for travel, seeing as much of the world as she could. She visited England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, North Africa, Spain, Japan and much of the United States. An accomplished pianist who loved music, she always attended the opera whenever the Metropolitan came to Boston. In her 60s she joined the Boston Ballroom Dancers Assn. and became a competitive ballroom dancer. Irene was a member of the Scots Charitable Assn. Womens Auxiliary for many years and served as Treasurer at one time. Beloved mother of Richard Maher & his wife, Geraldine of Weymouth, Marylou McCarthy and her husband, John of Scituate, Peter Maher and his wife, Carol of Marlborough and Janice Jenkins and her husband, William of Milton. Predeceased by her grandson, Steven Maher in 1996, she will be lovingly remembered by her remaining 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Lavin, Julie King, John & Kevin McCarthy, Lauren McCarthy Tafur, Gary, Melissa & Amy Maher, and Keith & Scott Jenkins. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Wednesday from 9 to 10 AM, prior to Mass. Interment Milton Cemetery. Marylou and family,
I'm sorry to hear of Irene's passing. She was such a sweet lady. She was a friend to my mother at Lifecare and was always very pleasant and happy.

She's with God, now, and she is at peace.
