Edward Clough Obituary

Edward M. Clough PLYMOUTH Edward M. Ted Clough, 67, lifelong resident of Plymouth, died early Tuesday, November 11, 2008 from complications following surgery. He was the husband of Elizabeth Betty Searles Clough, son of the late Charlotte E. and Edward M. Clough, Sr. Retired in August from a 45-year career with Verizon, Ted quickly became a devoted volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Ever productive and filled with the need to help others, he also worked with the Coalition for the Homeless. He was a member of the Pioneers, a telephone company retirees association, and the Plymouth Fitness Club. During his first years with what was then New England Telephone Co., Ted held a number of part-time jobs to support his growing family, and is remembered by many as a helper to his uncle, Alvin DeCost, in the latters television repair business. Later, when his children were older, he coached Little League and soccer teams. A 1959 graduate of Plymouth High School, Ted played football there and was active in the Catholic Youth Organization at St. Peter Church. As a teenager, he also worked in his familys grocery, Cloughs Market, on Summer Street. He also attended the University of Houston and Lowell Tech. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his five children: Penelope A. Clough Cariolo and her husband, Ian, of Taunton; Kathleen J. Clough, of Barton, Vt.; Christopher E. Clough and his companion, Lisa Fitts, of Marshfield; Jeffrey Clough and his wife, Lauren, of Osterville; and Amy Clough and her companion, Peter Nightingale, of Duxbury; four grandchildren: Richard and Kasey Hackett and Tori and Ellie Clough; and two great-grandchildren, Libby and Ginger. He is also survived by his sisters, Jane Clough Busi and Sheila Clough Crifasi of Plymouth. He was brother to the late Christine Clough Lehto. Funeral from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Plymouth, at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-7 p.m. only. Cremation will follow in Duxbury Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to the Salavation Army, 8 Carver St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
