Madelyn Phillips Obituary

Madelyn G. Phillips PLYMOUTH Madelyn G.(Glendon) Phillips, 83, of Plymouth passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24th with her family by her side. She is predeceased by Lester Eugene Phillips, her loving husband of 58 years. Born in Somerville, MA on April 1, 1925, she was the daughter of Thomas and Rose Glendon. A 1943 graduate of Somerville High School, she attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she also worked as an Administrative Assistant on the Manhattan Project in relation to the development of the atomic bomb. She continued her career as an executive secretary at Norwalk Hospital and a teller manager at Union Trust Bank in Connecticut after being a mother and homemaker for several years. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Doherty of Plymouth, MA, and her two sons, Thomas Phillips of Glastonbury, CT and Gerard Phillips of Milford, CT. Other surviving family members include two daughters-in-law, Elsie Phillips and Janet Phillips, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is pre-deceased by two sisters, Louise Glendon of Somerville and Marjorie Denaro of Chatham, Massachusetts, as well as a son-in-law, Richard Doherty of Plymouth. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, November 26th at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Plymouth. A burial will immediately follow at the National Cemetery in Bourne. Friends and relatives may call at Cartmell Funeral Home , 150 Court St., Plymouth from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, November 25th. Donations may be made in her memory to the Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA. 02360. With Heartfelt sympathy from her cousin Mary Hamill and her husband Tom {Braintree MA}.Wish I was able to attend Madelyn's wake and funeral,but, health problems prevent it. Madelyn will be remembered in our prayers.
