Robert Jack Obituary

Robert S. Jack HANSON Robert S. (Bobby) Jack of Hanson MA passed away November 27, 2008 at home surrounded by his beloved family. He was 82 years old. Born and raised in Scotland, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1951 and lived in Quincy for 50 years before moving to Hanson. Loving husband to Jean M. (Belliveau) for 55 years, father of Rev. Robert M. Jack and his wife Carol of Charlotte NC, Lorene E. Jack of Brockton, Sandra J. Shaw and her husband Eugene of Hanson. Grandfather of Lindsay Salter and Allison Beach of Charlotte NC, Fiona and Kelsie Shaw of Hanson MA and great-grandfather to Renee, Tyler and Adrienne. He is survived by his sister Marion Montgomery of Boness, Scotland. He was predeceased by his brother James Jack of Grangemouth, Scotland earlier this year. Born in Stirling, Scotland and raised in Grangemouth, he joined the 12th Royal Lancers of the British Army during WWII and after the war was part of the peace-keeping forces in Israel. In 1949 he immigrated to the Canadian Arctic to work for the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Co. After his stint in Canada, he was persuaded by relatives living in Dorchester MA to move to the U.S. After marrying Jean and settling in Quincy, he joined the Scots Charitable Society of Boston , acting as its President from 1980 to 1981. He was very active in the scholarship and entertainment committees providing college scholarships to young adults of Scottish decent. He was also President from 2001 to 2003 of the Kilwinning Club of Boston, a formal Degree Team of the Grand Lodge of Free Masons. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, Quincy and its choir. He retired from British Airways at Logan Airport, Boston in 1987 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he was the singing half of The Caledonians, a musical duo who performed traditional Scottish and popular tunes at numerous senior centers and cultural events for close to 15 years. One of his greatest passions in life, besides his family, was soccer football. As a young man, he played socially with multi-national teams in the Boston area. During the years from 1969-1971, he was head coach of the mens varsity soccer team at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, leading the team to their first winning season in school history. He later briefly coached Quincy High School varsity. During these years, he was a member of EMSOA (Eastern Mass Soccer Official Assoc) and officiated school-aged soccer games, receiving an honorary award for length of service. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 1 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church, 270 Franklin St., Quincy MA 02169. To the Jack Family:I want to express my sympathy to you Jean, and the family as I remember Bobby from 1st Presby singing in the choir, the toastmaster of the Scottish times we would have, the bagpipes and often meeting you two at some restauant.My late mother was also a fan of yours!I liked the "haggis" too!
He was such a strong man and it is hard to see how the years have gone by but memories never leave us.

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Jack. I remember going to the house in Quincy to play with Lorene. I even remember us getting caught making "crank" calls to the operator!!!
