William Darrow Obituary

QUINCY William W. Darrow, age 78, of Quincy, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, November 30, 2008. He was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a lifelong Quincy resident. Mr. Darrow was a master mechanic with the City of Quincy for over forty years. He worked for the Quincy Highway Department for many years and retired in 2000. After retirement he worked for eight years as a mechanic with the Quincy Park and Recreation Department. Mr. Darrow was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and served with the Army artillery mechanic tank division. He was a life member of the Houghs Neck American Legion Post 380. He enjoyed boating, was a charter and life member of the Quincy Yacht Club. A former member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1202 and a former assistant harbor master for the City of Quincy. Beloved husband for fifty-eight years of Veva (Williams) Darrow. Devoted father of Eileen B. Timcoe and her husband Tom of Quincy, Veva D. Johnson and her husband Eric of Weymouth. Brother of Harold Buddy Darrow and his wife Esther of Quincy, Anne Connor and her husband Mike of Pembroke. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Also survived by his beloved pet, Toto. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Thursday, December 4 at 11 AM. Reverend M. Alicia Corea will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4 8 PM. Private Interment services, with Military Honors, will be conducted at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Darrows memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
