Grace Beck Obituary

ALBANY, NY Mrs. Grace Lozo Beck, 97, passed away November 30, 2008 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle Lozo of Glens Falls, NY, and wife of the late Carl E. Beck. She was a graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in music and was an accomplished musician excelling in voice, cello and the piano. She later earned a Masters degree in elementary education at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, and did additional graduate work at SUNY, Albany. She taught in the Lansingburgh, NY school system for many years. She is survived by a son and four daughters: Carl E. Beck, Jr. and his wife, Deborah , of Spartanburg, SC, Phyllis Atkinson of Ridgeley, WV, Grace E. Beck of Albany, Lois E. OBrien of Braintree, MA, and Barbara E. Dertinger and husband, Thomas, of Midlothian, VA. In addition, Mrs. Beck is survived by her sister, Viola Lozo Smith of Glens Falls, N.Y. Mrs. Beck was blessed with nine grandchildren: Emily Beck Bickings and Carl Beck III, Robert and Geoffrey Atkinson and Pamela Atkinson Blasdell, Lawrence, Christopher and Elizabeth OBrien, Jennifer Dertinger Fitzgerald, and five great-grandchildren, Hannah Blasdell, Christopher and David Atkinson, Abbey Bickings and Lily Rose OBrien. The Hans Funera l Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany , has been entrusted with the Beck Familys care. A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.

We had the priviledge of meeting Mrs. Beck in July of 2007 and greatly enjoyed our visit. Her grandaughter, Jen, (our favoritie daughter-in-law tells warm and wonderful stories about her.
