Louise Mable Obituary

Louise Myra Mable HINGHAM Louise Myra Mable, a Hingham resident for the past 60 years, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at her home at the age of 89. Mrs. Mable was born in Bridgeport, CT and was raised in Woonsocket, RI and South Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School. She was very proud of winning the Miss South Shore Pageant at the age of 16. During World War II, Mrs. Mable was a welder at the Hingham Ship Yard and later became a counselor and social worker and was a great comfort to those suffering from substance abuse. During her many years in Hingham, she was an active volunteer at the Hingham Senior Center and many other programs for the elderly and needy on the South Shore. She also was a member of the Hingham Historical Society, the Hingham Womens Club and sang with the OPALS, a local choral group. For over 50 years Mrs. Mable was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hingham where she sang in the choir. She was the wife of the late Earl D. Mable, the late Edwin R. Morton and was the mother of Billee Louise Morton of Hingham, Robert Andrew Morton of Hanover and the late Edwin R. Morton. Also survived by her grandchildren; Krysten Noel Carey of Scituate, Carrie Vestine Buckley of Hull, Ed Morton and Randy Morton both of Florida; and her great grandchildren, Liam Dare Carey and Joshua james Carey both of Scituate. In addition, she leaves her daughter-in-law, Janet Morton of Summerfield, FL, and was the sister of the late Hazel Dyer and the late Robert Burns. Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Saturday, December 6th from 3-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday, December 11th at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 85 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church or to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Dr., Braintree, MA 02185-9060. The interment is to be private.
