Roy Smith Obituary

QUINCY Roy M. Smith, Jr., passed away at Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Center on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at age 88. Born in Quincy, he was a Hough's Neck resident all his life. A WWII Navy veteran, Roy was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a sheet metal worker for Local 17. He was athletic and played hockey and baseball at Quincy High and later for teams on the South Shore, and remained an avid hockey fan. Married for 65 years to his beloved wife Catherine M. (Griffin) Smith, Roy is the beloved father of Catherine Smith and Janet Sullivan, both of Quincy and Roy M. Smith III and his wife Mary of Duxbury and dear grandfather of Erin Sullivan and her husband Ryan Leuchte, Roy M. Smith IV, Timothy J. Smith and Jillian M. Smith. He was the brother of Annie S. Hurry of Quincy and the late Stephen Smith and Sadie Smith. His funeral will be from the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center on Monday, December 8 at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited.
