Martha Dempsey Obituary

Martha L. Dempsey DEDHAM Martha L. (Bowman) Dempsey, passed away at her home, on December 1, with her family by her side. She was 84. Born in Boston, Mrs. Dempsey resided in Dedham for over 50 years. During that time, she was a faithful and active member of the Allin Congregational Church and held office on many of their committees. She was a former member of the Dedham Garden Club and the Dedham Women's Club. She was the beloved wife of the late Welman H. Dempsey, and together they raised 6 children. Her greatest joy in her life was her large and loving family, and she enjoyed creating traditions with them that would become her legacy. Every summer she looked forward to riding the carousel at Nantasket Beach with her children and grandchildren. After moving to Linden Ponds in Hingham, Mrs. Dempsey became active in that community as well. She enjoyed reading (especially biographies) and listening to classical and big band music. Mrs. Dempsey was the loving mother of Linda Dempsey of Weymouth, Leslie Brousseau and her husband Steve of Georgia, Laurie Hall and her husband Jim of Scituate, Scott Dempsey of South Carolina, Steve Dempsey and his wife Keri of Georgia and the late Susan D. Baer. She was the dear sister of Frederick Bowman of Jamaica Plain. She was the cherished grandmother of Megan, Lauren, Erin, Justin, Gregory, Drew, Grace, Lily, Ryan, Alexandra, Jack, Brianna, Katie and Julia. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 10 a.m. at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., Dedham. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Martha asked that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244. For online guestbook, please visit www.folsomfuneral.com.

Leslie,

I just wanted to post a note saying how sorry I am to hear that your mother passed away. Even though I live in NJ, I scan the Boston Globe website from time to time and recently by chance happened to spot the notice for your mother. It’s been a long while since we’ve been in touch and I hope everything is going well otherwise. Your Mom and Dad were two of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life and it was always a pleasure to see them when I used to swing by the homestead on Westchester Circle way back when.

Please give my regards to Linda, Laurie, Scott and Steve and best wishes to you, Steve, Megan, Lauren and Erin. Would be nice to catch up with you sometime. Again, my condolences to all.

Martha was one of my mother's dearest friends. My mother and I were lucky to see her again last summer. She'll remain in our memories.
My condolences to the family.
