Philip Nolan Obituary

Philip Nolan BRIDGE CITY, TEXAS Capt. Philip Raymond Nolan, Sr., 84 of Bridge City, Texas died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. Capt. Nolan was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1924. Lived in Quincy, Scituate, Marshfield Hills and moved to the Groves, Port Arthur area in 1968. He was a 1941 graduate of North Quincy High School and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1944. He was a Merchant Seaman for 46 years, retiring from the Texaco Marine Dept. in 1989. Capt. Nolan was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #7, the Veterans of Foreign War Post #797 and Knights of Columbus in Bridge City. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Henry's Catholic Church of Bridge City and an avid volunteer with the Bridge City/Orange-field Ministerial Alliance. He was also the Assistant Fire Chief of the Toledo Bend Vol. Fire Department. Capt. Nolan is preceded in death by his parents, Francis J. Nolan and Mary Elizabeth (Collins); brothers Joseph, Francis, and Charles; sister Sarah Williams; his late wife Lillian (Corcoran) and daughter Geraldine "Jill" Sellars. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose (Placette) Nolan; son Capt. Philip R. Nolan Jr. and his wife Katie of New Orleans, LA; daughter Jane and her husband John "Jack" Connolly of Hanson, MA, Gordon, Danny, Steve Placette, Denise Perron, and Tammy Lumpkin; all of Texas. Grandchildren Michael and David Nolan of AZ; Erin Rice of LA; LT Steven A. Koch Jr. (USCG) and his wife Atty. Isabelle (Leigus) of Glastonbury, CT; Catherine Fitzpatrick and her husband Michael (Quincy Fire Dept.); Jaclyn Koch and her fianc Joseph Fitzpatrick (National Grid) and Lauren Koch; all of Quincy; Kelly Sellars of East Bridgewater and David Sellars and his wife Sugen of Brockton, MA. Great-grand father of Olivia Fitzpatrick, Faye Fitzpatrick, Vedder Sorgi, Jared Fitzpatrick, Meah Fitzpatrick, Alexis and Billy Hurley, Gabriell Sellars, Emma Rose, and many nieces, nephews and his beloved dog "Toby". Memorial mass July 12, 2009 11 a.m. Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan Street, Hanson, MA. Capt. Nolan,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
