Gertrude Dawe Obituary

WEYMOUTH Gertrude C. (McClellan) Dawe, a retired long distance operator for AT&T, died on Thursday at Alliance Health Care in Braintree. She was 85 years of age. Born raised and educated in Roxbury, she was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School and had lived in South Weymouth since 1990. She also wintered in Ft. Lauderdale for many years. Gertrude was a member of the Pioneers of America and had retired in 1965 after 23 years with AT&T. She was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society at both the St. Bridgets Church in Abington and St. David Church in FL. Gertrude had a wonderful sense of humor that carried her through life. She loved animals, shopping, yard sales, playing and volunteering at bingo. Beloved wife of the late George E. Dawe, she is survived by her daughter Adrianne C. Nichols of Hopedale, 3 grandchildren Sara, Michael and Jake, 1 great-granddaughter, her beloved friend Patricia R. Powers of Weymouth, her cousin Mary Kates of Hanover and brother-in-law Mike Wright of Weymouth. She was sister to the late John and James McClellan, the late Catherine Thibodeau and the late Marilyn Wright. A Prayer Service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH, at 809 Main St. (Rte 18 opp. South Shore Hospital) on Tuesday at 12 noon. Visitation will preceed service from 11:00-12:00. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Children Research Hospital at www.StJude.org.
