Edward Sullivan Obituary

Edward T. Sullivan MILTON Edward T. Sullivan, of Milton and Oyster Harbors, devoted husband of Annie (McCrea) and the late Eleanor F. (McEleney) Sullivan. Loving father of Nancy Donnelly, Jane Sullivan and Edward T. Sullivan, Jr. all of Boston. Grandfather of Rourke Donnelly and Hugh Donnelly and great-grandfather of three. Step-father of Michael, Christopher, Meredith and Tim Falvey. Ed was a proud Double Eagle. a graduate of Boston College High School and a member of the Boston College Class of 1935. Mr. Sullivan taught Latin and Greek at BC High before becoming a teacher in the Boston School System. He was Principal of the Thomas N. Hart School in South Boston. Following his early teaching career, Ed was appointed First Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth by Kevin H. White and served in that capacity during Mr. Whites tenure as Secretary from 1960-1967. In 1968, Ed was appointed Vice Mayor of the City of Boston a position that he held for sixteen years throughout the administration of Mayor White. In his capacity as Vice-Mayor he responsibly handled the many complicated fiscal affairs of the City with recognized efficiency and expertise. Ed was not only known for his great intellect and administrative talents, but also recognized for his unique and ever-present sense of humor, both publicly and privately. His very dry style of humor endeared him to his friends, colleagues in government and municipal employees at City Hall. Ed was a member of the Milton Hoosic Club, the Beach Club in Osterville and the Massachusetts Historical Society. Throughout his life Ed was deeply concerned with education and school reform. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory Church, Dorchester, Tuesday June 23 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Monday 4 - 8 p.m. Interment Milton Cemetery. SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF A GREAT GUY.. ED HIRED ME AT THE HALL IN 69.. HE TRUSTED HIS FEELINGS FOR THIS SOUTHIE GUY AND I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL..I DID 39 YRS OF SERVICE.. ED WAS SO SMART.. AT ONE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ..HE WAS GETTING HAMMERED BY DAPPER O,NEILL.. WE APPROVED TWO CARS IN LAST YEARS BUDGET TO TRANSPORT PRISONERS.. I SEE HERE TWO PURCHASE ORDERS FOR A STATION WAGON AND AN ELECRA 225.. WHO IS THE ELECTRA 225 FOR ? YELPED DAPPER AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGSD.. EDS ANSWER... FOR FIRST CLASS PRISONERS!!? DAMPER WENT WILD.. SO CLEVER A MAN.. THANKS ED FOR THE MEMORIES AND A JOB WELL DONE ON EARTH. YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS TODAY

To Ed's Family,
I worked with with Ed for twelve years in the Kevin White administration, of which he was both the glue and universal mentor. Ed was one of the key reasons why being a part of the administration was so rewarding.

I'm so sorry to about your loss,but he was like a father to me in my school dayswhen I had him for my 6th grade teacher and when my father died ,he had him at nite school sewing teacher.He gave me my first job when he was deputy Secretary of State under Kevin White.

Dear Annie,
We will always be there for you! We will miss our Eddie so much.
Our times together are memories that we will cherish. We will always remember the times on Cape Cod at your house. Many years of laughter and good times! It was a pleasure to have both of you at Kevin's baseball games a few weeks ago. Pictures that were taken of all of us, will be treasured. Eddie will always be in our hearts. A great man!
