I was deeply saddened to hear about John's passing. His love of life and his love of family is something I'll carry with me to the end. You were someone who could be depended on in any situation and you covered my back on more than one occasion. I'll miss you "Desi" you were a good man.

I just had to come back one more time to say goodbye to my old pal Desi. There hasn't been a day that gone by that I don't think of you. We certainly had some great times especially in the late 70's and 80's. Jimmy Haney, Paul McCormick, Darby Lyons, Johnny Riggs, Danny McCormack, Bob Sabatini, Bobby Woodyrard, Yvonne McCormick, Nancy Fairfield, Sean McCormick, Farmer, Phils bar and of course 34 Union Street. John made such an impact through his contact with young men on the football field and this is how my family came to know him. I will be forever grateful for the positive influence John had on my son. I am also grateful to the Desmond Family for the legacy of creating the Apaches Football team in Quincy it has kept many boys busy for a season while teaching great values.

I was so shocked to hear of John's sudden illness and now to hear of his sudden passing. I can only imagine how hard it must be at this time. To the Desmond Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Desi was a great sport and a wonderfully warm soul. I hadn't seen him in years and went for surgery at Carney Hospital. He saw my name on the schedule and requested to assist in my operating room. He took such good care of me that day. It made such a difference having Desi hold my hand and take charge. He's a beautiful person and I have nothing but warm and caring memories of him. I am so sorry his life was cut so short. My deepest sympathies to his children and family.
