John Tolan Obituary

John J Tolan Rockland â€" John J. Tolan, 77, of Rockland died Oct. 3, 2007, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a long illness. He was born in Boston, son of the late Anna (Cerezerezola) and John J. Tolan. He was raised and educated in Watertown. John graduated from St. Patricks High School in 1948, where he was a star athlete. John excelled in baseball, football and basketball. John holds the distinguishment at St. Patrick’s of being the first person to score a touchdown for the school football team. The touchdown was scored on a 105 yard fake punt. John was proud to have spent 12 years serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves out of Weymouth and Quincy. John was a very active member of the ancient order of hibernians division 14 of Watertown. He was a member for over 25 years. Mr. Tolan worked for many years in the glass and window production industry as a glazier. He retired in 2006 from the Solar Seal Co. He also spent time over his career working for Newton Sash and Door and the Multipane Glass Co. John was an avid lover of sports. He loved to follow all of the local sports teams, especially the Celtics, Red Sox and the Boston College football team. Mr. Tolan also used to enjoy trips to the Raynham-Taunton Dog Track. More than anything, John loved to spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Jean M. (Linehan) Tolan; his children, Peter J. Tolan of Rockland, Jean M. Gear of Virginia, Kevin J. Tolan of Abington and Patricia A. Tolan of Rockland; brother of Edward J. Tolan of Watertown and the late Mary LeConti. Also survived by eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Boston, MA. Funeral from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church at 9 a.m. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland.
