Robert Slocum Obituary

Robert L Slocum Whitman â€" Robert L. Slocum, 74, a resident of Whitman for 46 years and Homosassa, Fla., died at his home Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, of prostate cancer. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Radcliffe) Slocum. Mr. Slocum was born and educated in Hyde Park, spending his summers in Scituate. He was a son of the late John J. and Ruth E. (Salman) Slocum. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, having served from 1951-1955. He worked as mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Needham Branch for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He later worked seven years as a concierge at Orchard Cove in Canton. In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth A. Slocum of Whitman, Thomas R. Slocum of East Bridgewater, Edward R. Slocum of Duxbury; and his daughter, Debra Jane Harris of New Hampshire. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle), Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. www.blanchardfc.com. .

Mr. Slocum,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
