George MacDonald Obituary

George H. MacDonald South Weymouth George H. MacDonald, 86, a retired engineer for New England Telephone Company, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was born, raised and educated in Quincy and was a resident of Weymouth for 56 years. He was a graduate of Franklin Technical Institute, United States Maritime Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. and Northeastern University. He spent 8 years in the Merchant Marines, sailing on the SS Cottonwood and SS Marine Devil as Chief Electrician and as an engineer. In 1945, Mr. MacDonald began a 39 year career with New England Telephone, first as a lineman and installer and then to become an engineer for the Data Technical Support Team. He retired in 1983. He had a great love for fixing electronics and his workshop was a place of enjoyment, repairing televisions, radios, and appliances. He was a Deacon and a Trustee of First Baptist Church in Weymouth and a Charter Member of the Community Baptist Church in Weymouth where he operated the sound system for many years. Often he could be found driving others to their treatments and doctors appointments. Mr. MacDonald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia (Johnston) MacDonald, a daughter Hazel Murphy and her husband George of Marshfield Hills, a sister Barbara Powell of Louisiana and 5 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2:00 at First Presbyterian Church, 270 Franklin Street, Quincy. The Rev. Dr. Stan Johnson and Pastor Thomas Dagley will officiate. Donations may be made in George's name to Hospice Services of Mass., 577 Main Street, Wareham, MA 02571.
