Wilbert Bertrand Obituary

Wilbert J. Bertrand, Sr. QUINCY Wilbert J. Bertrand, Sr., died suddenly at Quincy Medical Center on Friday, November 2, 2007 at age 88. He was born in Quincy, where he was raised and educated and lived his whole life. In 1938 he began working for Bethlehem Steel at the Fore River Shipyard and worked at the Hingham Shipyard during WWII. Wilbert was working as a clerk for General Dynamics when he met his wife Eleanor. After retiring in 1984, worked at Star Market in the Produce Dept. for 35 years. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Ave Maria Council in West Quincy and a lifelong avid reader. Married for 61 years to his beloved wife, Eleanor H. (Lomanno), he is also survived by his beloved children Eleanor M. Crockett and her husband Gary of Manteo, NC, Kathleen F. Bertrand and her husband Linda G. Lundin of Lakeville and Wilbert J. Bertrand, Jr. and his wife Maryellen of Norfolk. He is the dear grandfather of Amy (Ciccarelli) DeSouza, great grandfather of Noah DeSouza and brother of Lawrence Bertrand of West Quincy and the late Harold Bertrand. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be from the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. (off Hancock St. ) Quincy Center on Thursday, November 8 at 9:00AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Joseph's Church, Quincy Point. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Eleanor & Family: I am so sorry to hear about Wilbert. I don't know if you are aware, but Fred & I have moved to Florida and that is why we were unable to attend the Wake or Funeral. As I look back, I can remember all the good times we had at my mom & dad's back yard on Grogan Ave.
Eleanor, you keep up the strength and I your family will make sure of it.
