Joseph Comerford Obituary

Joseph F. Comerford Hingham Joseph F. "Joe" Comerford. He died November 4, 2007 at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Jane (Sharp) Comerford of Hingham. Loving father of Kathleen & Molly; both of Hingham and Patrick and his wife Erin of NY. Brother of Marianne Fahey of NY, William of FL and the late Michael, Thomas, Daniel, Nelson, Vincent, John and Kathleen. Brother in law to Alice (Holland) of NY, Maureen Comerford of NY, Bob Sharp of NY, Dan McKenzie of NY and the late Betty, Margaret, Mary and Kay (Leitten) Sharp. Also survived by 35 nieces and nephews and dozens of great nieces and nephews. Joe was born in Buffalo, New York on August 14, 1928. One of ten children to Dan and Kate Comerford, Joe was the youngest boy. Joe graduated with honors from St. Josephs Collegiate Institute in 1948 and from Canisius College in 1952. He was a member of the Di Gamma Honor Society. Joe joined the United States Army after graduation. Fighting the Korean War by way of Fort Dix, New Jersey, Joe rose through the ranks as a recruiter for potential re-enlisters just returning from the war. It was at Fort Dix that Joe received Last Rites for the first time. He would go on to set the Comerford record of receiving Last Rites eight times, the first in 1953, and the last on Saturday night. Joe married Jane Sharp in Buffalo, New York on July 11, 1959. As a young couple, they lived in Buffalo as Joe began his nearly forty year career in the beauty and fragrance industry. Joe worked as a Sales and Management Executive in the New England, Northeast and Mid-West regions, for companies including Revlon, Coty, Lancome, Vitabath, Smith Kline Glaxo Beecham, Parfums Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy. Joe also served as President for the New England Cosmetics Association for many years. After living in New York, Ohio, and Kansas, Joe and Jane finally settled in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1972. Joe and Jane made their home in Hingham for 36 years. Jane taught 4th grade at St. Pauls School in Hingham for over 25 years. Joe served as an Usher at Resurrection Church in Hingham for over a decade. Joe also started and served as the first President of Friends of Notre Dame Academy, the weekly Bingo Fundraiser. When not putting in the long hours of travel his career demanded, Joe was wholly devoted to his family. No matter the cost of the tuitions for Notre Dame Academy, BC High, Boston College, Regis College, Holy Cross College, and Fordham Law School, the annual family summer trip to Nantucket and a pie from Bartletts Farm, always happened. Joe will be forever remembered for his faith in God and people, keeping life fun and never losing his youthful sense of humor. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., HINGHAM, Friday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Paul's Church, Hingham at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Burial in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Hingham. Dear Mrs.Comerford, Katie, Molly, and Patrick,
Your father's entire life was devoted to all of you. Your happiness and achievements were his greatest happiness. Your dad always knew how much you all loved him. The beauty of being with your Dad was his great sense of humor and serious honesty that he showed me and Jim. HIs laughter was his gift to the world and everyone that touch his life. Mr Comerford's life was devoted to each and everyone of you and to your your mother. He was also a devoted
Catholic and a fine example to all.
My sorry is your missing him, there
are few people who are always missed
here on earth but their memory will never leave us. Our father taught me many imoortant lessons and one being: keep you family close and devote everything you have to them.
Plus and most of all enjoy everyday.
There are hardly any families left that are an example of the Comerford family.
Mr. Comerford blessed my life and my sadness of losing him is a true loss to me and my family.
You are in my prayers alway adn during this most differcult time. Kathleen Speredelozzi

I will always remember your father Katie, as a man of great spirit who always had a joke or two to tell. He had a great personality; so full of life, happy, laughing and of course a permanent smile on his face. I know he was an inspiration to you; an honest man who you looked up to all your life. His frequent visits to BC were always very comical. He certainly made me laugh. I know you, Molly and your mother will miss him so much.
