Selma Santer Obituary

Selma Santer WRENTHAM Selma (Monson) Santer, age 83, died peacefully in her sleep, November 11, 2007 at the Pond Home retirement community, Wrentham, where she made her home for the last fourteen years. Born in Lynn in 1924, the seventh of eight children of Rubin and Baila Monson, she graduated from Dorchester High for Girls. She married Army Lt. Mark Santer during World War II, went to the Palmetto School of Aeronautics, Columbia, South Carolina and became certified by the U.S. Army Air Force in aircraft engine mechanics. Before their separation, the couple lived in Sharon for forty years, where they raised their three children and participated in civic activities. Selma was a member of Temple Israel Sisterhood; she attended Boston University and the Swann School of Art. A pastel artist, she sketched from nature on her daily walks in town. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Santer and her husband Dr. Carl Suchar of Bellair Bluffs, Florida; Martha Santer and her husband Jeffrey Mordkowitz of Brooklyn, New York; four grandchildren, Deborah and Eden Suchar of Bellair Bluffs, Rachel and Arielle Mordkowitz of Brooklyn; a sister, Mollie Lakin of Columbus, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. Selma was also the mother of the late Reuben Santer. Services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 475 Washington St., Canton on Tuesday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be private. With deepest gratitude, the family requests that donations in memory of Selma may be made to The Endowment Fund, Pond Home, (non-profit retirement community) 289 East St., Route 140, Wrentham, MA 02093.
