Donald Atwood Obituary

Donald M. Atwood Abington Donald M. Atwood, 99, of Abington, husband of the late Alice J. (Moody) Atwood, died Tuesday afternoon in Colony House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Abington, son of the late Everett M. and Alice M. (Merrill) Atwood and graduated from Abington High School in 1925. He graduated from the Massachusetts Agricultural College in 1927 and later furthered his education at the R.C.A Institute, holding a Master Technicians License for T.V. repair. Mr. Atwood managed a greenhouse for his father until the depression, then worked for several years with his brother in construction, installation of heating systems and oil burners. Later he worked for a few years at Chase Radio in Brockton then as a machinist for Abington Textile Machinery Works, the Machine Craft in Whitman and finally Boston Naval Shipyard where he transferred to electronics, specializing in sonar and quality control, retiring in 1971. Mr. Atwood is survived by a sister: Marguerite Olson of Abington, 8 nieces and nephews: Carl Atwood of Kingston, Nancy Hutchinson of PA, Carol Spaziani of NC, Claudia Vento of VA, David Atwood of Switzerland, Dennis Olson and Dale Olson, both of Abington and Lee-Ann Trigler of Hanson, and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Hazel Benjamin, Elbridge Atwood and Freeman Atwood and uncle of the late Douglas Olson. Reverend Carolyn Trigerstadt will officiate at the funeral service 1 P.M. Saturday in the Joy in Christ Lutheran Church, 21 South Bedford St. (Route 18), Abington with visitation 12:30 on prior to the service. In his memory, the family wishes any gifts to go to the Enterprise Helping Hands Foundation.

I had only known Mr.Atwood from visiting my Uncle Norm Fowler and he certainly was a wonderful man. I continued to visit him after my Uncles passing because I felt a bond with him. May he rest in eternal peace.
