To Alan's family - the SHS Class of 1978 just had our 30th class reunion on Saturday, August 2nd, and was incredibly saddened to learn of Alan's passing from our fellow classmate, Carl Berman. I knew Alan since our school days at Broadway School and Southside High, and there certainly was a sadness at the reunion in knowing we were missing Alan from our class. God Bless him, and and his family, friends, and coworkers who are mourning his loss....I will remember him and keep him in my prayers always.

Maureen,
I am still thinking of you and the girls and the adjustments you must be going through along with the continued grief. Let yourself "feel the feelings" is the best advice I was given and call on your friends to help you through. I will continue to pray for you and the girls. I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can, even if just to lend an ear.

Maureen, Emily, Claire and the Blaney Family,
When my mom passed away, a friend wrote a letter to us that included the following verses. I hope that they will bring some comfort to you, as they have always brought comfort to me.
"Those we love are with the Lord,
and the Lord has promised to be
with us.
If they are Him, and He is with us,
then they cannot be far away"
Alan, Heaven is now a better place because of your presence. May God keep you safe and bless you. May you rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to all who knew such a wonderful, wonderful man. He will be deeply missed.
God bless.

Dear Maureen, Emily, & Claire,
You have never left my thoughts and prayers during this time. I don't need to tell you what a wonderful man Alan was because you are the people who knew that fact the most. Instead I am going to tell you how much I see him in each of you & your displays of loyalty and love to him. You three are like Alan's Angels...just demonstrating to everyone what a outstanding legacy he built. You are loved by many...including me Ü

Maureen and family, I met Alan in 1993 when he hired me at Founders Pavilion as a brand new nurse just out of school. I learned many things in my 10 years as a nurse at Founders. When I worked with Alan I always learned something new and he was always willing to take the time and teach. But Alan possessed qualities that could not be taught. Qualities that came natural to him. He was genuine and passionate about his work, about the people he took care of and especially his family. Like many that have mentioned before I felt as if I knew his wife and girls from all the stories he told about them. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God Bless.

ALAN WAS A GREAT MAN, AND FOR MY 11 YEARS I LOVED HIM LIKE A FATHER. ALAN WAS MY GODFATHER. I LOVED ALAN FOR WHO HE WAS AND WHAT HE DID. HE LOVED GOLFING, PLAYING HIS GUTIAR, FISHING, PLAYING WITH COMPUTERS, AND WORKING AROUND THE YARD AND HOUSE TO MAKE THINGS LOOK BEAUTIFULL. WITH THE LITTLE FREE TIME HE HAD, HE WOULD EITHER TAKE A DIP IN THE POOL OR WOULD HANG AROUND WITH HIS LOVING FAMILY AND CATS. I WILL MISS HIM A WHOLE LOT. I LOVE YOU ALAN.

Our deepest sympathy to you and your family on Al's passing. Our daughter was a patient at Founder's Pavillion for many years when Al was there. I worked with Alan since he started at Southport Prison. He was a great asset to our "team". He was a wonderful nurse. The inmates really respected him. His knowledge of computers was amazing! Maureen, Emily and Claire, I am extremely saddened at the sudden loss of Alan. He was my colleague and friend. He always did his best to take care of those who needed him. He will never be forgotten by the many whose lives he touched. Some of my best memories are of him while we worked together at Founders Pavilion. He was an intelligent professional who created many systems on the computer that made all our lives easier. He was serious, thoughtful, charming and funny. Through thick and thin I always knew I could count on him.
Most of all he loved his family and often talked about his dreams for them for the future. Take comfort in knowing how proud he was of his family. He will be missed.

Dear Maureen and Family,
I had the privilege of being Alan's Director of Nursing for six years at Founder's Pavilion, but it was not just an employee-supervisor relationship - it was a friendship built on mutual respect and trust. I heard many stories from Alan about growing up in rural Pennsylvania, fishing in his boat, and about the adventures of Emily and Claire. The residents and their families could always count on Alan to see that they got the best care that could be delivered. Everyone in the Corning Hospital/Founders Pavilion Administration knew what an excellent example Alan set as he performed his work to the highest standards and guided his staff to do the same. When Alan left Founder's Pavilion everyone was saddened, but this present sadness goes so far beyond what we felt then. My deepest sympathies go to you and all of Alan's family. May you find comfort in knowing how much he loved you and that he is now in the arms of our loving and merciful God.

ALL of us at Southport CF will certainly miss NURSE BLANEY. I don't think Alan realized that so many people thought so highly of him. He was just a man doing his best in all he did . His pride in his daughters shone in his eyes when ever he talked of them. He was a gentle soul here for such a short time but with a presence that will not be forgotten. Remember him with laughter and smiles and the love he had for you for I am sure that's how he remembers you.

Dear Maureen, Emily, and Claire,
We at Founders are deeply saddened by the loss of Alan. We have many great memories of him and endless stories of our times together. He touched so many lives here, residents, families, visitors, and co-workers. He was a big part of our family. He gave so much of his time, energy, and spirit to all of us here. He was proud of his family and spoke of you often. Words cannot express how deeply we will miss him. Our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt sympathy are extended to you and your family. We, at Founders will always remember him as an outstanding Nurse but more as a funny, compassionate, and awesome friend. The staff at Founders Pavilion.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of Alan. My husband and I both had the honor of working with Alan; myself at Founders Pavilion, and my husband at Southport. We were always struck with his high idealism and professionalism. While I worked with him at Founders, he ran his unit like a well-oiled machine and always asked for your best work just as he always delivered himself. As a Unit Manager, he lead by example as he spent many days answering call-lights, providing bedpans, and providing one-on-one care to demented residents who were going through a "difficult time". He often stayed after work to assist our 3-11 shift get things under control before he left for the evening. It was an honor to work with someone who treated every resident like a beloved family member. I was so sad when he left Founders as I am sure the entire staff and residents were as well. After his leaving our work place was never quite the same without him. My husband was also pleased to have met him as he left Founders to go to Southport. We were truly amazed by his gift and willingness to share his knowledge. To his family we wish our deepest condolences and offer the knowledge that he was well respected, hard working and above all a great human being that we had the pleasure to meet on the journey of life. May God bless you and please know he spoke of you often with so much pride and joy. May this comfort you at this time-our thoughts and prayers are with you.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Both my husband and I were saddened to hear of the loss of Alan. We both had the honor to work with him; myself at Founders Pavilion, and my husband at Southport and we were so impressed with his work ethic and professionalism. I especially remember how he inspired all his staff to always do their best and always keep the overall picture in mind when treating patients. He was a quiet, careful, and inspiring leader who ran his unit at Founders Pavilion as a well-oiled machine. He was a hands-on caregiver who would never ask anyone to do anything he would not do including providing bedpans, answering calllights and also providing one-on-one care to demented residents in the middle of their "difficult time". He was a fantastic leader and mentor and loved to share his knowledge and skills with all. I was so saddened to see him leave Founders Pavilion as I am sure were all the staff and residents as it was never the same without him. To his family, myself and my husband would like to convey our deepest condolences, and we wanted you to know we were so honored to have met him on this path of life and he will always be remembered as a wonderful man who gave so much to others and of himself. May God bless you and please know many thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Like no other nurse I've worked with before or since, Alan Blaney made an art form out of nursing and his passion for its craft motivated me to press-on during the impossibilities of nursing school nearly 20 years ago and he continues to inspire me every time I lay stethoscope to chest. It saddens me that I never told him that. May God reward him for his outstanding service to the patients he directly cared for and for those patients whose great nursing care can be credited to the positive influence Alan had over all nurses he worked with. The Hively family (Gary, Anne and Joy) worked with Alan at Founders Pavilion for many years and we are all heart broken and in utter dis-belief over this tremendous loss. To his wife Maureen and his daughters Emily and Claire; you may not know us but because he loved you so and spoke of you daily at work we feel like we know you and we pray for you at this un-imaginable time.

To Alan's family, his wife and daughters......I had the privelage of working of working with Alan for several years during my time at Founders Pavilion. And I say privalage because it was...!!! I can still remember his close attention to detail, his love of the residents in his care, and his hope of a future for Founders Pavillion. But most of all, I can still recall his voice arguing with "Mr B" about how he thought things should be at Founders. I was dissapointed when he left to go to work for the prison system, but it was for his best interests at the time I guess. Alan was always very outspoken with his opinion, and for this I always respected him. I just wish that I had told him how much I respected him...He said what he thought, and so few people do.....
He will be missed....
Rest in peace Alan

Brother can you remember
when we were both still small
The fun we had, the talks we shared
Looking back- we had it all.
Brother can I play with you
and wear your SHS shirt?
Will you let me throw your football?
I swear I won't get hurt.
Brother will you help me solve
this problem that I've got?
There's this boy I know
in my class
who I really like alot
Brother will you show me to try and drive a car?
Will you let me drive your fancy car?
I swear I won't go far.
Brother will you please wake up
open your eyes and live?
I won't believe that you have died
you had so much to give.
Brother I guess it's time to leave
My time with you here is through.
I'll say one last prayer, one last good-bye
and one last I LOVE YOU.
I am truly saddened by the loss of my brother and my heart breaks for Reen and the girls, my parents, and my wonderful sisters. Our lives will never be the same.

Dearest Auntie Rena, Emmy, and Clairabelle,
I can't put into words how shocked and devestated I am. My Uncle Ally was the most wonderful man I have EVER met. I can remember being little, and wanting to marry him. Most little girls want to marry their daddies, but not me! I was going to marry my Uncle Ally. We've lost our rock, and it will never be the same. But we can remember him and strive to carry on his name, and be the best we can be for him. I love you all so so so much. I'll be here for you always. Even if it's just for a shoulder to cry on or someone to listen. I'm here.
Love you,
