Pearl Nissler Obituary

NISSLER, Pearl Ott
Age 99, of 389 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, died at her home on Tuesday morning, July 22, 2008. She had been a resident of the Village since 1934. Pearl was born in the Town of Candor, NY (Germany Hill) on November 8, 1908, the daughter of Charles Ott and Nellie Ulrich Ott. She attended Cortland Normal School graduating in 1928 and then taught in Elmira Heights for two years before moving to Hornell. She later continued her education at Cortland and was awarded a Baccalaureate degree in Education in 1956. She taught in the North Hornell School beginning in 1947 and retiring in 1964. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and served the church in many capacities. She was a lifetime member of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York and always raised flowers and vegetables in her garden. She married Louis F. Nissler of Elmira at the Oakwood Methodist Church in Elmira Heights in 1932; he predeceased her in 1969. She was also predeceased by two brothers, C. Frank (Esther) Ott of New Paltz and Joseph (Julia) Ott of Owego. She is survived by a daughter, Katharine (Howard) Andres of Lancaster, NY; a son, Charles Nissler of North Hornell; two granddaughters, Kristin Andres of West Chatham, MA, and Suzette (Barry) Phillips of East Aurora; two great-granddaughters, Seneca Phillips, age 10, and Celia Phillips, age 8; also nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at the Hornell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marian Luce officiating. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell. Those wishing may contribute in her memory to their favorite charity.
