COWAN Leone M.
Age 86 of 2550 Shady Acres Drive in Mulberry, Florida formerly of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday August 9, 2008. Leone was born on April 17, 1922 in Wheelerville, PA, the daughter of Emory F. and Nellie Packard Ayers. Leone was a lifetime Mother and homemaker. Leone was a longtime member of the Breesport Baptist Church before moving to Florida where she became a longtime member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Mulberry, Florida. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Roy S. Cowan, who passed away on June 11, 2004 and her son, Army Specialist 4 John R. Cowan who was killed in action in Vietnam on March 11, 1966. Leone was also pre-deceased by her parents; brothers Lionel Ayers, Ira Ayers and Emory F. Ayers Jr. and sisters Esther (Ayers) Hyer and Essie (Ayers) Haflett; mother-in-law Leva M. Cowan of Norwich and recently sisters-in-law Thelma Frost of Interlaken, NY and Patricia Tuttle of Norwich, NY and brother-in-law Ted Wilcox of Mansfield. PA. Leone is survived by: son & daughter-in-law Thomas J. & Barbara J. Cowan of Mulberry, Florida; daughters & sons-in-law: Beverly & David Soper of Gastonia, NC and Janice & Donald Rosenbeck of Mulberry, Florida and Brenda and David Klobe of Columbus, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Elwood F. & Marion Ayers of Wilmington, NC; Edward F. & Cheryl Ayers of Williamsport, PA; and sister: Sister Constance (Evie) Ayers of Orleans, MA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: John Frost of Interlaken, NY; Marjorie and Melvin Hayes of Horseheads, NY; Alice and Bernie Hornbeck of New Port Richie, FL; Carol Cowan of Beaver Dams, NY; Sylvia Wilcox of Mansfield, PA; Wesley & Barbara Cowan of Horseheads, NY; Benjamin & Marion Cowan of Stuart, FL; and Sarah (Mrs. Samuel L.) Cowan of Horseheads, NY; 14 grandchildren and more than 30 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home, 318 West Broad Street, Horseheads, NY on Thursday August 14, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mrs. Cowan's Funeral Services will be held at the Lynch Funeral Home on Friday August 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Cowan's brother Edward F. Ayers will officiate. Leone will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Roy and son John in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira, NY. Tom and Barb, Beverly and Dave, Janice and Don, When you called and informed us of Mom's Homegoing we were deeply sadden but at the same time we were flooded with many years of memories. Mom was such a loving person and would do anything for anybody. She had a love for her Lord and Savior and was in constant prayer that her family would come to know Him as she did. I am sure that when she arrived in Heaven and spent some time with Dad and John and other family members who have went before that she headed for the kitchen to make some homemade goodies and made a meal fit for the King and had a grand party. We are going to miss you Mom but we know that you will be at the gate at our arrival. All of Our Love

Grandma was a great woman. We will remember her for her Godly spirit, her cooking, her holiday gatherings, thoughtfullness and everything else about her. My sincere condolences to the family I have come to know and love. We might be 2nd and 3rd cousins, but I sure don't feel removed. Ms. Leone, my Florida mom, will always be remembered by me as a very special and Godly lady. God gave her the gift of hospitality which she used faithfully. Her talents for cooking, baking and homemaking accentuated her gift. Roy and Leone opened their home to my family when we moved to Florida and always invited us to be a part of their holiday gatherings. I shall be eternally grateful for their hospitality. I know Leone is at the feet of Jesus rejoicing and praising Him and I look forward to the day I join her in the presence of my Lord.

Grandma was such a wonderful, and Godly woman. She always made everyone feel right at home. I miss the baking she used to do, and going to yard sales with her and Grandpa. I also remember going blueberry picking with them. They always were the highlight of my life whenever they came to visit. I know that she is with him again, and that she is with the Lord, so I am at peace knowing that I will see her again.
