Helen Kuczka Obituary

KUCZKA, Helen G.
Of Corning, NY, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at Corning Hospital. Helen was born October 10, 1933 in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of the late James and Helen (Hampson) Gorman. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers and was employed by Batten Barton Durstine & Osborne Advertisers in New York City prior to marriage to George E. Kuczka on June 6, 1953. She assisted her husband while he was manager of the Corning Country Club for 25 years, prior to owning and operating the Olive Branch Restaurant in Elmira until his death in March of 1971. Helen retired from Corning Incorporated in 1993, after 27 years of service as a Human Resource Administrator. Following her retirement, Helen served on many projects involving the American Cancer Society. She was a certified "Reach to Recovery" volunteer. She was a Hospice volunteer, doing patient care and office assistance, and she served on the Board of Directors. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the LPGA, Friends of the Library Book Sales, and the Cancer Treatment Center. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Tim) Daines of Denver, CO; a son, Michael (Amy) Kuczka of Corning; a grandson, Jason (Tessa) Daines of Denver; a sister-in-law, Adele Gorman of Yonkers; cousin, Doris Pisacano of Lakewood, NJ; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas and James Gorman; and by a sister, Barbara, all of Yonkers. It was Helen's request that there not be any calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of celebration at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will provide flowers and asks that memorial donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Greater Rochester Chapter, 550 Latona Road, Bldg. D, Suite 408, Rochester, NY 14626, or to Southern Tier Hospice & Palliative Care, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.
