William Cronin Obituary

CRONIN, William P. "Bill"
Age 81, longtime Southport resident, passed away on Saturday September 20, 2008. Bill was born on May 26, 1927 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Mary (Smith) Cronin and Joseph Cronin. Bill was predeceased by the love of his life of 39 years, Mary Lou Liddick. He was also predeceased by his son, William Cronin Jr.; sister and brother in-law, Marion and Hank Makowiec; brothers, Jack (Evelyn) Cronin, Jim (Helen) Cronin; stepsons, Randolph Liddick and Richard Liddick; and best friend, Dan Parker. Bill is survived by his sister, Katherine (Kate) Russell of Horseheads, NY; brother, Francis "Teet" Cronin of San Diego, CA; nieces, Mary Lou Morse (Makowiec), Jackie Cronin, and Marcy Russell; nephews, John Russell, Charles Russell, Martin Russell, along with several other nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by his stepchildren, Ron (Marilee) Liddick, Robert (Jodi) Liddick, Michael (Diane) Liddick, William (Patricia) Liddick and Jean (Kevin) Rexford, and longtime dear friend Sue Parker. He was "Grandpa Bill" to Renee Hall, Ryan Liddick, Melani Liddick, Tyler Liddick, Samantha Liddick, Nicholas Liddick, and Alissa Liddick. Bill retired after a long career at Westinghouse. He was in the US Navy during WWII. His interest included rooting for the NY Mets, NY Giants, and doing his daily crossword puzzles. Bill "Lefty" was a local standout in men's travel Fast-pitch Softball League. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport NY on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Funeral and Committal Services there Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. The Reverend David Daniels will officiate. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Those wishing may make memorials to the charity of one's choice. A "Candle of Remembrance" may be left for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com.

I was so sorry to read the news today of Bill's passing. He had such a good soul, and I'll miss him flashing the peace sign, with that winning smile! What a great guy. Hang in there.
