John Devlin Obituary

DEVLIN, John T.
Age 72, passed away on October 6, 2008 at his home in Jensen Beach, FL. Formerly of Elmira, John was the son of the late Thomas and Patricia (Kane) Devlin. John is also predeceased by his brother, Thomas (Ox) Devlin Jr.; and uncle, Jack Kane Sr., whom were also his best friends; also several aunts, uncles and cousins. John leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, MaryAnn (Mernie) and Michael VanDeBogart-Knapp of Horseheads, NY; nephew, Thomas (Marianne) Devlin with children, Anna, Maura, Claire; nephew, Michael (Mia) Devlin with baby girl to be, Ella, all of Elmira, NY; niece, Barbara (Dave) Ruf with children, Kelly and Katie of Poughkeepsie, NY; his very special uncle and aunt, Patrick and Libby Kane Sr. of Horseheads, NY, with whom he spent many, many good times; also his aunt, Patricia (Patty Derr) Kane, at whose home he could always find good food, good times, and good friends; and many cousins. John also had some dear friends, Bob Habor, Nick Palla, and John and Ellie Case, among others. John was a member of many clubs, Elks, Moose, American Legion, V.F.W., and the American Veterans. John enjoyed being with people and was always willing to step up and help when he could. John spent many Thanksgivings cooking (which he loved) dinners at one of his clubs. John had a large part in caring for his mother and younger sister after the death of his father in 1965. This in turn made him a bigger than life hero to me (his sister). I will miss him terribly. John was my brother, father, and most of all, my best friend. I have found that once your heart is broken it can never fully heal again. I do believe we'll all be together again one day - so until then, I'll hold you tightly in my broken heart. I love you and miss you, Mernie. No calling hours, per John's request. St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Merrue,
I too will miss your brother. For years we joked that I had him on retainer for my carpet cleaning. I always enjoyed the goodies he made. I will always have fond memories.

We are sorry to hear about the loss of John. There are many memories to which we can reflect upon with a smile, like the picnics at the reformatory club house, evenings on the Kane porch, and so much more. Remember the happy times.

Mernie
I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how close you and John were. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

MaryAnn (Mernie),

What you wrote about John was very special and right from the heart. Instead of stating where he went to school and what he did for a living, your words captured the true person and the positive impact he had on others in his lifetime. It was a beautiful gift to him.

I'm so glad you hosted that picnic this summer to give us all a chance to see John one last time.

Growing up together as we did, there was never any doubt in my mind how much you were loved by both your Brothers, John and Tom. They are now up in heaven together with your Mom and Dad and they are all watching over you now.

God Bless You,
Cousin Molly
