Dorothy Paluck Obituary

PALUCK, Dorothy M. (Lewis)
Of Elmira Heights, NY. Beloved wife, mother and grandma, age 85, passed away at home surrounded by "her girls", Mary Helene, Annie and Mary Ellen. Born in Mayfield, PA, she was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary (Kilgannon) Lewis; siblings, Charles, Thomas, Edward and (twin) Irene Lewis Nolan. She is survived by her loving husband, Ben, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. She leaves behind two daughters, Mary Helene (Mark) Missert (who were her caregivers) and Ann (Thomas) Kilmer. Dorothy also relied on her devoted niece, Mary Ellen Nolan (to whom she was a second mother) and her faithful and helpful brother-in-law, Casimir "Rico" Paluch. Another niece, Sheila Carney, who took her to bingo games and shared family memories, will deeply miss her aunt, Dorothy, as well as her son, Jim (Amy) Carney. Other family members surviving include her grandchildren, Nathan (Tracy Touris) Tress, Jeffrey (Kara Hill) Tress, Andrew (Jennifer) Kilmer and Michelle Kilmer, who were her pride and joy. Also a niece, Patricia Carney (Bob) Bennett and children; sister-in-law, Dorothy Paluch of Corning; and nephews, Thomas, Timothy and Terry Paluch with their spouses and children; nephew, Edward (Patricia) Lewis and sons, Ryan and Evan of North Carolina and cousin, Cora Waibel of Carbondale, PA; sister-in-law, Pauline Lewis of PA and niece, Barbara Ward and family of New Jersey. Dorothy was an employee of the A & P plant and enjoyed her work there with many friends and treasured memories over her career. Her bingo friends were a constant source of pleasure, especially Edie Walton, Jean Dann, Floyd, Susie, Georgia Knox, Helen, "Moe", Eleanor Covey, Terry, Shelley, Marie Novick, Annie, Lillian, Kitty and Nanette Wyak. Thanks, too, to the wonderful bingo workers at the Elmira Heights and Horseheads Legions. Special thank you to Dr. Taryn Draxler, nurse Sandy and nurse practitioner Kris Hill. Also the staffs at St. Joseph's Hospital (Unit 3C), Elcor's Colonial Ridge West and Arnot Ogden Hospital (4A and 4B Nursing Units). Also staff at Gentiva and Southern Tier Hospice greatly eased Dorothy's passage. And thanks to Marcia Ashton, RN, who always assisted with care. Dorothy will miss her neighbors Gloria Johnson, Tina, Jennifer and Kiah Butler and Nayasha VanDyke. She was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for many years, with a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Her family also gives grateful thanks to Sister Rita of the Dominican Monastery for her support and prayers. She will be remembered for her generosity to anyone in need, her affectionate nature, boundless love and exuberance in living. At her request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 130 Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights on Thursday, October 9th, at 1 p.m. Rev. Christopher Linsler, Celebrant with Frances McLaren as Organist and dear friend, Nanette Wyak as Cantor. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing, may remember Dorothy through donations to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.
