Phyllis Lundy Obituary

LUNDY, Phyllis W.
Age 91, of Elmira, died at home on October 23, 2008, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Phyllis was born in Walton, PA, the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Fox Wombaugh. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Henry, and sister, Gloria Kelsey. She is survived by brother, William Wombaugh of Port Orange, FL; children, Anne (John) Welch of Reston, VA, John "Jack" (Beth) Lundy of Calabash, NC, and Karen Davidson of Elmira; grandchildren, David Mark Welch (Jessica) of Falmouth, MA, Cheryl Dillard (Paul) of Richmond, VA, and Megan Hoffman (Mitchell) of Stamford, CT; great-grandchildren, Leah, James and Timothy Dillard, Daniel and Andrew Mark Welch, and Maddox Hoffman; sister-in-law, Esther Hammond of Horseheads; and brother-in-law, Carl (Doris) Lundy of Hammondsport, NY; 14 nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a graduate of Southside High School and Elmira Business Institute. She grew up in Elmira and was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's craft guild. She also participated in a group that produced hand-made natural craft items to benefit Tanglewood Nature Center. Phyllis and Henry were avid bird watchers and belonged to the local Audubon Society. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, on Sunday, October 26, 2008, from 4 - 5:30 p.m. Funeral Services honoring her life will follow at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Abigail Hoffman officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tanglewood Nature Center, 443 Coleman Ave., Elmira, NY 14905 or to Bethany Lutheran Church, 256 South Walnut St., Elmira, NY 14904. A "Candle of Remembrance" may be left for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com
