Robert Delaney Obituary

DELANEY, Robert J., Jr.
Age 76, of John's Island, South Carolina, passed away on October 13, 2007 at Hospice Center of Charleston. He was born on February 3, 1931 in Elmira, NY. Parents were the late Robert J. DeLaney and Dorothy Brand DeLaney. Robert graduated from Mercersburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1949 and Williams College in Massachusetts 1953. In 1954 he served in the Air Force and married Ann Vanberg while in Japan. Ann, of Olean, NY, died On October 10, 1995. Robert worked as a Commercial Banker for 41 years and retired in 1992. Robert served his community as an elected official on the Town of Seabrook Board and Property Owners Association as well as his involvement with the Exchange Club of Kiawah and Seabrook. Bob was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was devoted to the Church and was a faithful member. He was committed to his family and friends. Robert enjoyed golf, watercolor painting and traveling. Bob was a man who did not want recognition for the areas in which he volunteered. He was known for his dry sense of humor and wit. Bob is survived by his son, Steven Todd Delaney also of John's Island; a daughter, Lisa Atwell and son-in-law, John Atwell; and two granddaughters, Caroline and Lauren Atwell. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 27th, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on John's Island. Arrangements by McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Charleston, South Carolina.
