RICHARDS, Winston L.
Elmira, NY Winston L. Richards left this world to be with his Savior on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at Arnot Odgen Medical Center. Born and raised in Caton on August 28, 1927 to W. Earl and Charlotte D. (Hemly) Richards. He attended local schools in Caton and Corning, graduated in Sacramento, CA and also attended a Junior College in CA. For over 25 years Winston worked for Ray and Harry Rhinehart as a scale man and bookkeeper. He later retired from the Town of Caton as a bookkeeper and continued his bookkeeping skills as Treasurer of the Elmwood Cemetery Association up until his passing. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures such as spending time with family and friends, especially playing cards and in earlier years fishing, hunting and farming. Survivors include, daughter and son-in-law, Avonne and Eugene Dickerson of Caton; granddaughters, Beth and Dale Gridley of Caton, Apryl and Jon Clary of Hornby; grandsons, Kurt and Christine Dickerson of Milton, NY, and Ryan Dickerson of Caton; dear and precious great-grandchildren, Jacob and Carter Gridley of Caton and Olyvia and Emily Clary of Hornby; sisters, Gladys and Frank Reynolds of Springfield, MO, Anna Moe (Dale-dec.) of Long Beach, CA; brother and best friend, David Richards (Marion-dec.) of Lindley; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. As a young man, Winston was struck with the polio virus and was paralyzed in both legs. Fortunately, this was not a handicap for him, only an obstacle that gave him the tremendous strength and courage to live a productive and fulfilling life. A kind, gentle and patient man, that rarely complained of anything, but always thought of others before himself. Those that knew him respected his inner-strength and will to live his life to the fullest. He will be truly missed by family and friends. Family and friends may call at the Acly-Stover Funeral Home, Corning, on Thursday, November 1, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Caton, NY. Condolences may be sent at:
