LEARN, Brian Dennis
Formerly of Elmira, NY

Age 61, of Devonshire Drive, Chesapeake, VA, entered into his Eternal rest on Friday, November 23, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 16-month battle against brain cancer. Brian was born January 13, 1946 in Wellsboro, PA, the son of the late Lyle J. and Katharyn (William) Learn, and raised in Elmira, NY. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1964 where he met and then later married the love of his life, Maxine Pierce. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 42 years, Maxine; his sons, B. Scott and Ann Tobey Learn of Goldsboro, NC, Wade G. Learn of Norfolk, VA, Scott A. Pryde of Reisterstown, MD; grandchildren, Joshua W. Learn of Norfolk, VA, Steven C. Learn of Jacksonville, FL, Valerie M. and Ariel K. Pryde of Reisterstown, MD. He is also survived by his brother, David and Philenda Warren of Elizabethtown, PA; his brothers-in-law, John A. Pierce of Pine City, NY, Kenneth L. Pierce with Rebecca Tinker of Bowling Green, KY; and close cousin, Karen Benjamin of Pine City, NY; as well as numerous other cousins and relatives, and a host of very special friends. While living in Elmira, he worked for Westinghouse, Spaulding Bakery, and Joy Automatics Division of Servamation, Inc. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Westside United Methodist Church and also a former member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1986, he continued working in route sales for various bread companies in the area. He retired from the Lillian Vernon Corporation in January 2007 due to his illness. He then volunteered as a substitute driver with the Chesapeake Meals on Wheels. He is a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY 14904 on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services honoring his life will take place on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with Bob Moran and Art Thompson celebrating Brian's service. Interment will follow in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. At Brian's request, memorial donations should be directed to the Brian Learn Memorial Fund at the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, Illinois 60018. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or you can donate by calling 1-800-886-2282 or online at www.abta.org. A "Candle of Remembrance" may be left for his family in obituaries at www.olthof.com.
