Mabel Spirawk Obituary

SPIRAWK, Mabel L.
Age 85, formerly of W. 17th Street, Elmira Heights, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Brightonian Nursing Home in Rochester, NY. She was born April 26, 1922 in Glasgow, WV, the daughter of Denton L. and Mae Richards Luce. She married William E. Spirawk on October 16, 1948 in Oakwood United Methodist Church. She was a secretary for Spirawk Appliances in Elmira Heights, and was a longtime member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and its Dockstader Circle. She was a member of the Home Bureau, the Neighborhood Craft Club, and the Elmira Heights Historical Society. Mabel enjoyed collecting Depression Glass. She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Naphtali) Hoffman of Rochester; a son, David (Linda) Spirawk of Corning; three grandchildren, Leah Hoffman of Baltimore, MD, Amanda Spirawk of Rapid City, SD, Brandon Spirawk of Elmira; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Denton in 1969; her mother, Mae in 1962; and her husband, William on January 25, 1988. Family and friends are invited to call at Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, 161 Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights, NY, on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from noon until 2 p.m., where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. The family will provide flowers. Memorial donations may be made in Mabel's name to the Oakwood United Methodist Church or the Elmira Heights Historical Society.
