John Jenkins Obituary

JENKINS, John Edgar
98, well known former resident of Troy, PA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the Bradford County Manor. He was the loving husband of Eva A. (Williams) Jenkins. The couple was about to celebrate their 74th wedding anniversary on December 6th. They were married on December 6, 1933. Family and friends are welcome to call from 1:00-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. At 1:45 p.m. Trojan Lodge #306 will give a Masonic service. The funeral service to honor John's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th at the funeral home with his Pastor, Rev. Richard Noggle, officiating. Burial will be in North Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family. John was born on April 16, 1909 at Springbrook, Canton Township. He was son of the late Justin and Mabel (Myrick) Jenkins. John was named after the late Commander John Edgar Brown of Cedar Ledge. At the age of 10, John, his two brothers and two sisters were left homeless after their parents passed away 3 months apart. His older sister Merle had just married and lived on Bunyan Hill. She made a home for them with her, which consisted of Gordon, Maybelle, Philip, and John. He was active in the Troy community, serving on the Troy Borough Council, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, was a Troy Grange member for over 25 years, enjoyed the Troy Geneology group, and volunteered for the Troy museum. In 1943, John joined Trojan Lodge #306 a Free and Accepted Masons, was a member of the Troy Royal Arch Chapter #261, the Towanda Lodge of Perfection #146, and the Towanda and Williamsport Consistories of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. John enjoyed the time spent with Floyd Wright assisting with chicken barbeques and working with international couples. He also liked fishing and hunting and just being on Armenia Mountain where he spent time gathering it's history. John loved telling stories of growing up on Bunyan Hill and his first job with Orrin Warner when he was 19, going to the Troy Fair and making taffy and crispettes. John was in the poultry business for 15 years and worked for DeLaval Milking Supplies Company for 20 years and retired from there in the 1970's. John is survived by his wife, Eva; his two daughters, Shelia (John) Wilcox of Mt. Pisgah, PA, Phyllis (Maurice) Kendall of Florida; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his sister, Maybelle Clinton of Millerton, PA; and several nieces and nephews.John is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Merle Shedden; and his brothers, Philip and Gordon Jenkins.
