He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Dellinger and Raye Hales, one brother Marion Thomas, Jr., and his youngest son, Jon Matthew Mason.

His family was his first love, always putting them first. Brick and I were good friends in the early 50s. He taught me to drive. One night,
he said "now let's turn right." He meant at the next corner, but I turned right then and there, landing in a ditch.
He never let me forget it. We had some great times.
