James Welter Obituary

Published by Gill Brothers Funeral Directors - Richfield/Bloomington from Oct. 7 to Oct. 8, 2008.
Welter, James John Age 86, resident of Richfield for 61 years, passed away Oct. 5, 2008. Preceded in death by loving wife of 53 years Mary Ann (Scholz); son Vincent; and siblings Gus (Marcella), Helen (Earl) Blaylock, Sr. Michelle OSB, Dorothy and Norbert (Val). Survived by child- ren, Peter, Judy, Gail, Lynn, Clare, Paula, Benedict, Michael, Theodore and Mary Jo and all their loving spouses; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Bob) Boeser and Elaine (Pat) Bresnahan; a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings Sr. Linnea OSB, Gerald (Mary), and Janice (Bill) Dupont. Jim was a patient, tolerant and generous husband and father, and a disciplined, tireless worker. He grew up on a farm in Chanhassen, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, worked in the Seattle naval shipyard and on the Alaska Highway during World War II, and was co-founder of Welter and Blaylock, a Bloomington company that installed plumbing in new homes in Burnsville, Woodbury, Minneapolis and Bloomington between 1955 and 1981. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman. In retirement he was a passionate tomato grower, a faithful member of the Bloomington Coffee Club and welcoming host of the Tuesday night supper club and the Saturday morning breakfast club at his home in Richfield. He could fabricate anything from castoff pipes, from coffee tables and jungle gyms to hydroponic gardens and vegetable trellises. He loved engaging his children and others in discussions of religion and politics, and he wasn't shy in making his opinions known. But most of all, he loved telling jokes. Everything he did, he did with creativity, enthusiasm and grace. May God Bless him and may he rest in everlasting peace. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 10 AM at the Church of the Assumption, 305 East 77th St. Richfield. Interment at Assumption Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-7:30 PM at Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Ave. So. and one hour prior to mass at church. Rosary 7 PM Wednesday. Memorials preferred to MCCL. Peter and I think Judy will remember me. My sister Ruth sent a copy of the obituary, and I obviously then located it on the Internet. Please accept my condolences. Your dad must have been quite young when I knew him! But we thought WE were old then! It's amazing - time is.

When I think of Uncle Jim, his marvelous and all-encompassing smile comes to mind...that and the twinkle in his eye after a good story. I was reminded of this at the 2006 Sinnen Family reunion where he shared stories of life on the Chanhassen farm. My heart is with you, his family. Be comforted knowing he is at peace and cherish your memories.

David and Judy Shea Family-

My sympathies to your family. Judy, what a sweet photo, and beautifully written sentiments and memories. Your dad inspired many wonderful qualities in you Judy, and I 've enjoyed hearing how much you admired him as both a loving and devoted husband and father. I'm glad to have had the opprotunity to have met him. What a good and decent man. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May their soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

My thoughts and Blessings to you all,
Although I only knew Jim for a short time I know he will be missed by so many of our midwifery families. Many of the children who walked through the open doors of his home will remember his fine garden , his lovely relaxing swing and his delightful smile.
Rest in Peace Sweet Jim,
Blessings,
Emme

We will miss Jimmy's wit and charm but will never forget it! To me He's one of the last of a generation that I truly admired and enjoyed over the last 40 years or more, both on the water,in the woods and around the table at night with a favorite beverage in hand. May God bless him.
