W. Pannell Obituary

W.B. "Bubba" Pannell W.B. "Bubba" Pannell, age 87, went to meet his Savior and loved ones on December 31, 2008, at Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, with family and friends at his side. Bubba was born in Austin, Texas, to Fuller and Edna Pannell on November 4, 1921. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Annette (Ceder) Pannell; his parents Fuller and Edna Pannell; brothers Carl, Howard, Charles, Otis, Raymond, Rayford, and Johnny; sisters Lillian Bergfield and Lola Putnam. At an early age, Bubba accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was the ultimate man of faith and family. Bubba and four of his brothers worked for the Austin American Statesman Newspaper. Bubba retired from there after 38 years of service. He will be forever missed and remembered by his loving and devoted daughter Helen Ann Wray, favorite (and only) son-in-law J.T. Wray; cherished grandsons Ryan Wray and wife Daniela of Keller, Texas and Collin Wray and wife Beth of Springfield, Missouri, along with nieces and nephews and countless friends that all meant the world to him. No words could ever describe the loss his family will feel. He was the perfect example of what a son, husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather should be. We have truly been blessed for having had him in our lives. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Cook Walden Funeral Home, North Lamar location. Services will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden. Burial to follow at Decker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Decker Cemetery Fund in care of Decker United Methodist Church, 8304 Decker Lane, Austin, Texas 78724-2206.

I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS OF BUBBA. I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW HIM SINCE MY DAD CARL EDWARD PANNELL PASSED SO YOUNG AND I DIDN'T KNOW MY GRANDFATHER CARL PANNELL (BUBBA'S BROTHER). MY BROTHER IS CARL WAYNE PANNELL.

GOD BLESS!

Bubba,
We will never forget you and the friendship you extended to us. You were a great Christian man. A true gentleman in every way. We will miss you!

Bubba was like my second father, having the honor and privilege of knowing him since birth and being raised at Austin Gospel Tabernacle the first 11 years of my life where Bubba was always so loving, kind and mentoring. He always had time to give me a "hard time" playing practical jokes on me. This continued after we all settled in at Central Assembly of God until I married and was unable to see Bubba and Annette as often as I would have liked. However, there were those occasions, such as this, when we would once again get together and he would predictably lift the spirits of everyone he touched. Never in my life did I see him rattled or shaken. His presence was like an immovable rock and he always gave me an inner peace when I was around him. There are some bonds that cannot be broken and those bonds I have with Bubba, as well as Annette, Helen Ann, Ju and the boys are unbreakable. This family has always been the example of Christianity I would choose for an unbeliever to be introduced to and Bubba was the rock. He always made it clear that Christ was his rock. Bubba, I love you dearly and will, forever, miss your wonderful humor and "hard times" you gave me. Give Annette, Mom and Pop Ceder and Grandma Bergstrom great big hugs for me as soon as you get there.

Love you,

Rodney

We were blessed to know Bubba (and Annette) from 1988-1993. They always greeted us at the door at Central Assembly, always smiling and always hugging. I'll always remember the last time we were with Bubba at their home in Austin: Bubba was having a conversation with my husband (we were newly married) that he should ALWAYS open and close the car door for me. What great memories we have of both Bubba and Annette. They were truly great examples of serving our Lord and Savior.
