Joseph Albert Bennett

Joseph Albert Bennett, 85, of 1319 Knox Street, Statesville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bennett was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Alfred and Bessie Hedrick Bennett. He attended Iredell County schools and was retired from Paola Mills in Statesville. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, where he was an avid Christian and loved his Sunday school class. Mr. Bennett is survived by eight nieces, Gail P. Sowell, Debbie Price, Cheryl Travis, Elsie Ladd, Teresa Speaks, Betty Bass (Homer), Colleen Brawley (J.D.), Sue Jarvis (Ralph) and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Price and Lois Bennett, and by two half-brothers, Flake and Clay Bennett. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, 1608 Shelton Ave., Statesville, NC 28677.
