Albert Sights Obituary

SIGHTS, JR., Albert Peterson "Pete"Col. US Air Force Retired, age 91 of Nashville, TN, passed away at home on Thursday, October 23, 2008 in the loving care of his family and Alive Hospice. Born October 30, 1916 in Clinton, OK, he was the youngest of four children born to the late Albert P. and Nellie M. Sights. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul, Opal and Wenona of Clinton, OK. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jane Rawlings Sights; his daughter, Judith R. (Randy) Baskerville; his son, Albert P. (Al) Sights III; his niece, Mary Virginia Marelli, her husband Angelo, their children, Lucy and Tommy, and their children. Pete graduated from West Point in 1938 and served his country in the Air Force for 28 years. His assignments took him to such places as Casablanca, Guam, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Texas and Alabama. After retirement, he enjoyed a second career as a writer, publishing 17 articles on military history and analysis. Among his many interests were woodworking, photography, painting and print making, flying, computer technology and walking. Pete and Jane enjoyed years of travel together, their time spent at the family farm in Burns, TN, as well as time spent with their family and many friends. Pete was a loving husband, father and friend who will be missed by many. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The visitation will be at 11 a.m., in the church parlor of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Memorial Service will be at 12 Noon in the church chapel, with Rev. Carson Salyer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Williams, Geoffrey Brittin and Gen. Enoch Richardson. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully suggests donations be sent to Alive Hospice, at 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203. Friends may sign the guestbook at MEM.com.
