Stanley Jusyk Obituary

East Lyme - Stanley John Jusyk passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, with his family by his side at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass.

He was a Niantic resident for the last 20 years. Previously he lived in Southport, Conn., throughout his married life. He was born in West Warwick, R.I.

Stan served his country as an Army Air Force cadet at Wichita, Kans. In the aftermath of World War II, he also served as a tank commander and interpreter in Germany.

After graduating from the University of Rhode Island as a mechanical engineer, Stan worked for 32 years at Sikorsky Aircraft. He held several patents on components for de-icing of rotors and refueling of helicopters, particularly on the well-known SH-60 Black Hawk.

Stan's consuming passion was golf, at which he excelled throughout his life. He enjoyed camaraderie and golf rounds at Rockledge Country Club in Rockledge, Fla., the Patterson Club in Fairfield, Conn., and for the last 20 years, at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peg Larkin Jusyk; his daughter, Jacy and son-in-law, Jim Worth of Lebanon; his grandson, Patrick, currently attending Brown Medical School in Providence; and his granddaughter, Margaret, currently a junior at Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y. Stan was so proud of his family. He is also survived by an aunt, Helen Slitz of New York Mills, N.Y.; his sisters-in-law, Ellie and Loretta Jusczyk of Rhode Island and Ann Stanton of Southbury. Numerous cousins, nephews and nieces also survive.

Stan was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Louise, and his brothers, Walt, Ed and Ray. As young men, Stan and his brothers excelled in a variety of sports throughout the northeast.

Surviving also are his golf buddies, Cal Ackley, John Curtiss, Neil Pastel, and Tom Lesnik. He was playing a round with Tom three months ago when he was first stricken with his fatal illness.

The Jusyk and Worth families wish to thank Drs. D. Thompson and J. Madsen and the staff at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and concern throughout the last three months.

They are equally thankful to the staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. today at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial scheduled for 11 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, Haigh Ave., Niantic. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alpert Medical School, Brown Medical Annual Fund, Box G-S121-9, Providence, RI 02912 (401 863-1635) or http://bmaf.brown.edu; or, if possible, donate blood to the American Red Cross.

To Peg and Family, I would like to send my thoughts and prayers with Stan's passing. Through my father John Curtiss, I was able to play a number of golf rounds with the "Wednesday Afternoon" boys. Stan was so welcoming and an absolute joy to play with. I will never forget those times and all the golf (and Life) advice. I am sorry for your loss.
