My deepest Sympathy to all. I remember a time with Candi at a meeting in the Lodge at Giant City I was new to the area and Candi made me feel so welcome and comfortable. I remember her great smile and her red hair. She was so energetic and got everyone around her motivated.
God now holds her in the palm of His hand where she will forever spread His Love. She will always remain a part of many people's lives because of all the hearts she has touched.
God be with you always.

Dear Doug,
Karen and I are so deeply sorry for the loss of your wonderful wife Candi, and the loss of a sweet and caring mother to your children Julia, Mason and Susannah.
Julia is a dear and close friend to my step-daughter Anita and through that friendship, Anita felt very close to Candi.
I and Karen know that we have missed out on a chance to get to know Candi better. But please know that your beloved always had a smile and a quick joke and showed nothing but kindness to myself and my wife Karen. (Anita's Mom)
I have been thinking of the last time that I saw Candi. It was in the lunchroom at Anna Jr. High the night of the girls trip to North Carolina. I saw Cani standing there trying VERY hard to keep her group of girls together and on track. I looked at her and told her "You look like your having fun". She said back to me..."Yeah...RIGHT..." I told her better you then me. We both had a good hearted chuckle.
When Karen and I found out that Anita was in Candi's group for the trip, we both felt so much better because we knew that Candi would watch out for Anita and the other girls.
Just as you can be assured that Candi will forever be watching out for your beautiful children.
If Karen and I can do anything in anyway, please just ask.

My heart aches for this loss in this wonderful family. Candi and I worked together at Region II and periodically after she moved to Southern Illinois with Doug and her wonderful children. Candi always shared stories of Doug and the kids with me as that was what meant most to her. Candi was so fun loving as well as extremely intelligent. She was an asset to the field of School Psychology and devoted her life to helping children. Have contentment in the legacy Candi left behind; her loving family and her never tiring love for life.

I worked with Candi at Region II in Edwardsville in the 1990's. She never had a discouraging word to say about anyone and never complained. She was fun and funny, and never pretencious or superficial. She was kind. A parent recently told me that Candi was the first professional to recognize that her daughter had autism at age 3. I'm sure she has helped so many others along the way, Candi we loved you and will miss you!

My prayers are with Candi's family. Not only did I work with Candi at the Regional Office of Education but we also shared the same birthday. Her presence, personality and loving smile made a difference in a long day at work for me and others. I will never forget her immediately coming to my side when I was involved in a motor vehicle accident on my lunch hour. Doug and family, I hope you find special comfort at this difficult time. She will remain in my heart forever!

Doug and children,
I shared an office with Candi at Region II. There were many wonderful times and hours spent together. No matter how hectic our lives got her smile brightened everyday. I shared each of your births and early years with your mom loving every story (even Doug breaking his tail bone rollerblading). While our lives had distanced us you were always in my heart. My thoughts, love, and prayers are with you.

Candi was a wonderful individual, always caring about others and being there for the kids. She was my daughters chaperone for the 7th grade trip to North Carolina and I remember watching them leave, being content with the thoughts that my daughter would be safe with her. We will miss you Candi. Special thoughts go out to Doug, Julia, Mason and Susannah.

I had a great deal of respect for Candi as an educational professional. I attended many workshops with her. She helped our district implement PBIS in our school--she sold the program to a skeptical group. She is in large part the reason we are having a better academic year.
I knew her to be a caring and enthusiastic professional. I did not know her well personally-but knew from our professional dealings that she had 3 children she was very close to. I remember that she was worried this summer when she had to leave them at home unattended due to meetings at Cairo.
Southern Illinois has lost a great educator in Candi Hayward--she will be greatly missed.
