Candide Rozman Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Aug. 14, 2008.
ROZMAN, Candide G., 84, of Manheim Township, Lititz, Penn., passed away at the home of her daughter, Elaine Alexander, on August 1, 2008. She was the wife of Robert W. Rozman, who predeceased her in April of this year. They were married for 62 years. Born in Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of Charles J. Boucher and Marie Gagne Boucher. She grew up in Hartford and Windsor, Conn., and volunteered as a nurse's aide and a spotter for the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. Upon her beloved Bob's return from the war, they were married in 1946. As an officer's wife, she spent many years traveling across the U.S. and Germany. During these years, she continued to pursue her love of music. She was the first chair violinist for her high school orchestra and played in many civic orchestras and chamber groups in the following years. She studied violin under Alphonse "Al" Gagne, late of Richmond, a graduate of the Hart School of Music, 1st cellist with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, teacher with the Richmond School District and WWII member of the Army Field Band at Ft. Lee and in Europe. She also was active in civic chorales and church choirs. She was an avid player of tennis, Bridge, and Mah-Jongg. Her artistic pursuits included stained glass, quilting, watercolor painting, knitting, and sewing. Upon her husband's retirement, they resided in Manchester, Conn., and then moved to Lancaster County, Penn., in 1986 to be near her daughter's family. She was a member of Towne Club, Welcome Wagon Coterie, and volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. She leaves her sons, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Thomas R. Rozman (Joy) of Williamsburg, Va., Major (Ret.) Robert L. Rozman (Lynda) of Marshall, Va.; and her daughter, Elaine R. Alexander (Alan) of E. Petersburg, Pa. Her grandchildren include Doug, Bryan (Maria), Melissa, Michael, Matthew (Kathy), Todd (Yvonne) Rozman, Brad, Matt, and Tom Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Raquel, Emma and Karl Rozman, and Noella Migliuri. She is also survived by her sisters, Lorraine, Norma, Yolanda, and Gloria. She was predeceased by brothers, Fern, Roger, Wildy, and Lucien; and sisters, Jean, Ann, Lorette, and Noella. Mrs. Rozman will be buried alongside her beloved husband in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, Penn. 17604-4125. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 560-5100. For full obituary information, or to send an online condolence, please visit www.snyderfuneralhome.com.
