It has now been almost 11 years since you left us and I still think of you often and the good times I had coming by the station to see you and share a joke or two. You were one of a kind, rest in peace my friend.

To the Brooking Family,
As James' companion, girlfriend, significant-other, spousal-equivalent, whatever my title over these past 5-1/2 years, you know the love we shared and the good memories we made together and as a family. I am thankful for the time he was a part of my life and also thankful for each of you. The Brooking and Parrish families welcomed me as one of their own, just as my family welcomed James, and that is a wonderful blessing.
Your family has been through too much in a short time; losing Mr. Brooking and then James within weeks--so much grief is hard to endure. But I have seen this family's strength, firsthand, and I know you will get through this sad time. We all must focus on the years we had with James; they were rare for those with his disease. He spent that time making memories with all of us and did not waste it on anger, nor negativity. So the best way to honor and celebrate his life is to go on, live the lives he wanted for us and to make good choices; do the right thing, as he always tried to do. I believe he will always be with us and by emulating his best qualities he will live on through us.
I love you all.

Anne and I will miss James. I first got to know him in the Lions Club and for his hard work at Goochland Exxon. He was always a good problem solver, so in a way it did not seem so unusual that he beat back his illness for so many unexpected years. I guess we thought he'd won the battle but God had a final plan that was different.

To the Family, There are no words to express our sympathy. James was special to all of us. We'll have the memories forever. With Sympathy, Kathi & Cecil
God saw James getting tired and a cure was not to be, As he put His arm around him, and whispered come with me.
And though we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay, A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid at rest. God took you from us, to prove he only take the best.
