POINDEXTER, Joseph Douglas "Doug," 54, of Richmond and formerly of Altavista, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in Johnston-Willis Hospital after a long illness. Born March 5, 1954 in Lynchburg, he was a son of J. W. "Billy Joe" Poindexter of Seneca, and Rachel Lindsay Ammons and her husband, Richard, of Richmond. He was retired from N&S Railroad; a U.S. Air Force veteran, and was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church, Richmond. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Tucker and Winston Poindexter of Rye, N.H.; three brothers, William Gregory Poindexter and his wife, Pam, of Chesterfield, Steve Winston Poindexter and his wife, Linda, of Chesterfield; Jay Ammons and his wife, Carol, of Acworth, Ga. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Lynchburg, by Rev. Linwood Cook, Rev. Shelton Miles and Rev. Ernest "Sonny" Yoder, with burial to follow in Poindexter Family Cemetery, Seneca. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the Heritage Funeral Service. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Laurels of Willow Creek for their care, love and support, and Doug considered all of you as his "second family."
