Byron Franklin Willard Jr.

WILLARD, Byron Franklin Jr., 64, of Richmond, died Thursday, August 14, 2008. Born June 24, 1944, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, he was preceded in death by his father, Byron Franklin Willard Sr., and his mother, Rachel Hull Willard. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sara Newpher Willard; two sons, Franklin Woodrow Willard and wife, Julie, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Christopher Lacy Willard and wife, Gail, of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joshua, Courtney, Keenan, Emma, and Davis Willard. Mr. Willard was a 1967 graduate of Catawba College with a major in Business Administration. He recently retired as President and CEO of Richmond Postal Credit Union. He was active in the credit union industry throughout his career. He served as a Director and Chapter President for the North Carolina Credit Union League, and was elected Outstanding Credit Union Person of the Year in 1977. He was a member of Reveille United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher for many years. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, at 11020 West Broad Street. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 18, at Reveille United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina.
