Doie Smith Obituary

SMITH, Doie Benjamin, 86, of Quinton, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2008. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1941 to 1945, during which time he saw action in the Pacific Theatre. Doie served in campaigns that included Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diedre Shott. Doie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret; one daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Donald; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va. His remains will be interred at Quantico Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Quinton Volunteer Fire and EMS, P.O. Box 172, New Kent, Va. 23124 or to the Providence Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 177, Providence Forge, Va. 23140.

Dear Aunt Tootie and family,
I was sorry to hear about Uncle Doie's passing. I know this is a very difficult time, but your faith and love will see you thru. We know he is in a better place and we will all be reunited someday.

Dear Aunt Tootie & Cheryl,
I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Doie's passing. It doesn't seem that long ago that mom and I came to VA to visit all of you. I have wonderful memories of that last visit with him. He will continue to live in our hearts and our memories.
