James E. Stanley

STANLEY, James E., 76, of Glen Allen, formerly of Sandston, passed away on August 15. He was born in Richmond on July 23, 1932 to the late William Stanley and Ruth Edwards. James later went to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. For 35 years, he worked for Bell Atlantic retiring as a building and planning engineer in 1989. He was a member of the Joppa Lodge #40 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Richmond, the Acca Shrine, was past commander of the Legion of Honor, had served as ambassador for three potentates and was chairman of the decoration committee. James was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kaye P.; three children, Steve and wife, Mena of Jetersville, Va., Becky Lawson and husband, Charles of Blackstone, Va., Vicky Martin and husband, Mike of Richmond; six grandchildren, Aaron and Corey Stanley, Kayleigh and Paden Lawson, Tanner and Kinsey Martin. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic services at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 17 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. the following day at the funeral home with burial to follow at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospital Transportation Fund, c/o Acca Shrine, P.O. Box 9217, Richmond, Va. 23227-0217 or to New Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 5701 Elko Rd. Sandston, Va. 23150.
